- Do I have to pay a licence fee to play this music?
- Not to Purrple Cat. Purrple Cat Self Releases are licensed by the artist under CC BY 4.0, and that licence is the artist's permission to use the music, including commercially, as long as you give credit. It costs nothing and needs no sign-up.
- What about music licensing bodies and collection societies?
- Rules for background music in businesses differ from country to country, and some venues hold blanket licences for other music anyway. We can't give legal advice for where you are, so check your local rules. If anyone asks, the CC BY 4.0 licence and your credit line show that the artist has given permission.
- Will my videos or streams get a Content ID claim?
- Purrple Cat Self Releases are not registered in Content ID, so there shouldn't be any. If a false claim ever appears (usually because someone re-uploaded the music where they shouldn't), report it and it's dealt with promptly. Dispute it with the CC BY 4.0 licence and your credit line.
- Can I monetise videos, streams and ads that use it?
- Yes. CC BY 4.0 allows commercial use, so monetised YouTube videos, Twitch streams, sponsored posts, ads and client work are all fine with credit.
- Where exactly do I put the credit?
- Anywhere a reasonable person would see it: a counter card, the foot of a menu, your website, a video description, a stream panel or overlay, or podcast show notes. The generator on this page writes the right line for each spot.
- What's the exact credit line?
- “Music: Purrple Cat (purrplecat.com), licensed under CC BY 4.0”. You can add the track or album name, and a link to the licence where links are possible.
- Can I edit, loop or shorten the tracks?
- Yes, for your own videos, ads and in-store loops. CC BY asks you to say that you changed it, so add “edited” to the credit. What you can't do is release a remix, sample or cover on streaming services.
- Can I play the Spotify albums in my shop?
- The music itself is fine to play in a business. Streaming apps are a separate question: many consumer apps are licensed for personal listening only, so check the terms of whatever you play it through. Downloaded files or this page's in-store player keep it simple.
- Which music is covered?
- The 34 Purrple Cat Self Releases on this page, from Up All Night (2018) to City Nights 3 (2026). Music Purrple Cat released through other labels isn't listed here and may have different terms.
- What does it sound like?
- Dreamy chillwave and ambient downtempo lofi: soft piano, wide pads and slow, deep grooves. No vocals to talk over, nothing jarring, which is why it works as background music.
- Do I need to tell anyone I'm using it?
- No. There's nothing to register. Credit it and you're set. Sharing a photo of your counter card is always appreciated, though.
- Does lofi.biz track me?
- No. There are no cookies, analytics or ads. Your player volume is saved only in your own browser, and the Spotify players load only when you press preview.
